Essentiel Antwerp King Placed Print Shirt in Olive Green

A shirt that appears to have been made from several fabulous shirts at once. Very efficient of Essentiel.

The Essentiel Antwerp King Placed Print Shirt in Olive Green is a women’s oversized printed shirt combining contrasting khaki, black and soft pink prints in a bold patchwork-inspired design. Cut from lightweight 100% viscose, it has dropped shoulders, a relaxed shape and a curved hem that falls slightly longer at the back.

This is exactly the sort of print we like at BWD. There’s a lot going on, but the earthy olive base keeps it surprisingly wearable. It makes jeans and simple trousers look as though considerably more thought has gone into the outfit than actually has.

Why it made the cut

• The placed patchwork print makes every section of the shirt interesting rather than relying on one repeating pattern.
• Olive green, black and soft pink is an unexpectedly good colour combination.
• The oversized silhouette and dropped shoulders give it that unmistakably relaxed Essentiel proportion.
• 100% viscose keeps all that volume fluid and drapey rather than stiff.
• The longer curved back looks particularly good worn loose over narrower trousers.
• It does so much of the styling for you that we’d strongly suggest leaving everything else alone.

How to wear the King Shirt

Blue denim would be our first choice. Add the Kashba Patchwork Jeans in Midnight Wave Blue if you fancy embracing the full Essentiel approach, or keep things quieter with your favourite straight or barrel-leg jeans.

With black wide-leg trousers, we’d leave the shirt loose and add loafers. Simple bottom half, complicated top. A system we can all understand.

It would also look brilliant worn open over the Kort Tee in Charcoal Grey, almost like a lightweight jacket.

What colours go with an olive green printed shirt? Black, cream, charcoal, denim and chocolate brown are the easiest partners. The soft pink within the print also means you can pick up pink or burgundy elsewhere if you’re feeling particularly coordinated.

Although we’d probably stop at the shirt.

Fit & actual product measurements

The King is intentionally oversized, with dropped shoulders and a relaxed body. The back hem is slightly longer, adding to that loose, easy silhouette. The model shown is 178cm / 5’10” and wears a size S.

Essentiel Antwerp UK size conversion

A BWD note on Essentiel sizing: Essentiel Antwerp is known for relaxed, oversized and exaggerated silhouettes. In some deliberately oversized styles, a nominal UK 4 can comfortably work on someone who would usually wear a UK 8. The King is definitely one of the oversized ones — with a 48″ chest on the size S, there is plenty of room built into the design. Consider sizing down if you want less volume.

Care

Hand wash as directed, avoid tumble drying and gently reshape before air drying. A light steam will help restore the fluid drape of the viscose without flattening the fabric.
