Coffee is particularly good. Warm, chocolatey and a little less obvious than black, it works beautifully with all the cream, grey, denim and brown currently occupying our wardrobes.

How we’d wear them

With blue barrel-leg jeans, brown loafers and just enough sock showing at the ankle. Very BWD.

They’re equally good with grey tailoring and loafers, cream trousers and trainers, or a midi skirt with ankle boots.

Can you wear brown socks with black? Absolutely. In fact, we’d encourage it. Coffee brown with black trousers and black loafers gives an all-black outfit a warmer, more interesting little twist.

And if you’re already wearing chocolate brown? Go tonal. We’re well past worrying about whether our browns match perfectly.

Care

Wash gently with similar colours and avoid tumble drying where possible. Treat them nicely and they’ll continue doing the important work at ankle level.
