The only summer bag you’ll need. Introducing Tepito Milano

Have we got a treat for you! 

Our latest brand, Tepito Milano, is from Milan, the global capital of fashion and design! The brand is know for it’s creative use of popular Mexican textiles coupled with high quality Italian leather, their design inspiration coming from local shopping bags that the shop owners of Tepito, a neighbourhood located in Mexico City, gifted to their customers in the 1980s.  Tepito is best known for it’s colourful ‘Tianguis’ (a traditional open-air market) which occupies 25 streets jam packed with stalls including food, shoes and second-hand items. This is, however, no innocent, busy market as some say that Tepito’s Market is the most dangerous in the world. We’ll let you be the judge of that…  

When researching (ie googling!)  Tepito we quickly concluded it was NOT a place we’d be visiting soon. The town has a long and proud history of being a “Barrio Bravo” or ‘fierce neighbourhood’. Since it started in pre-Hispanic times, the reputation of the market has declined rapidly. There are lots of reasons for this including its location, shootings and drug dealing. Who knew that the home of such dainty, colourful handbags could be so thrilling!? We do love a bit of drama though, don’t you? 

 

OK, so less of the history lesson, let’s talk fashion… We LOVE Tepito Milano bags because they offer luxury, artisan fashion at an affordable price. Similar to the Balenciaga Bazar bag of old, Tepito Milano bags offer you the same rad look for a much more realistic (and therefore justifiable) price point.

How would we style it? 

The Xilta bag in Pink/Green as an ideal everyday bag. It’s super lightweight and practical as well as cheerful and happy. Style it back with a denim playsuit, spring jacket (the beautiful colours on the bag would particularly complement the Rails Steffi jacket in light sage) and one of super-cool Arizona Love trekky sandals (double pearl would be our fave choice).

How would we style it? 

The cute little Robin bag is bang on for a night out painting the town red. Despite it being the smallest, the impact it would have on your outfit would be BIGGEST! It even fits all your evening essentials in (e.g. phone, lippy, pefume, keys). Pair it with a commando leather leggings, a commando leather crop top and an truly oversized blazer. The obvious choice of shoes would be a halfway heel which is the best way to ease your feet back into wearing heels but still being comfortable. We can’t wait for a good old dance and this is going to be our go-to outfit!
